The “Blog” is Back
In 2018, I didn’t understand what other women meant when they lamented that we “couldn’t have it all.” I was on the brink of my thirties and arguably on top of the world. After all, I was jumping into the next stage of my career, going for real date nights with my husband, and obsessed with my new title of mom. As a new mom of one, it was also easy to make time in between those two long naps to write. Pre-pandemic vacations also provided a much-needed reprieve from the monotony of life. All in all, this blog celebrated an uncomplicated, humorous, and fantastic foray into motherhood.
It’s now 2022 and a lot has changed but for now, the blog is back. The pace might be slower and the posts might shorter. But, the sentiment is the same.
The Updates
Let’s have a moment of silence for those two aforementioned naps, as my now 3-year old hasn’t taken even one nap since last July, and now move forward. Here are the most pertinent updates from me, Leya Kaufman, now a Westchester-based full-time working (from home) mom-of-two:
- Turns out when you live in the suburbs, you can still curse at people when driving to feel like a New Yorker.
- It took a week to admit it but…Disney+ is the new Neflix.
- Lin-Manuel Miranda also gave content-starved families everywhere the gift of the new movie “Encanto.” Two months later, we’ve all seen it 56 times.
- As luck would have it, maternity leggings are just as comfortable 10-months postpartum and appear to be regular pants via zoom.
- The two-week pandemic we predicted in March 2020 has turned into a two-year long apocalypse. Plus side? Everyone looks hotter (and younger) in a mask.
- They now make knockoff gummie bears that have no sugar. But they’re just as satisfying to those with a sweet tooth as the fake handbags on Canal St. are to the luxury elite.
- The Buggles’ 1980s classic, Video Killed the Radio Star, is really about how much harder it is to shoot Instagram reels than it is to take static filtered selfies.
