kaufMOM Crush: PJ Library
This free children’s book service just became my son’s personal librarian, Amazon Prime subscription, Hebrew school teacher and favorite past-time. Enter: PJ Library.
We subscribed to PJ Library upon my mom’s request the minute that Ezra was born. And our son’s bookshelf has been enriched with baby-friendly Jewish heritage, global culture, and yiddish humor ever since.
During this uncertain time, PJ Library is the new children’s museum, with endless educational entertainment.
Every month we look forward to a new glossy edition and a welcome addition to story-time. A few hits include:
Our Son’s Favorite Book:
Blame it on the effortless rhyme or the trilingual sentences that are so effortlessly woven together in Sarah Aroeste’s book. But this multi-faceted go-to is undoubtedly our toddler’s favorite.
He insists on reading this one on repeat. So it’s a blessing that we enjoy it too.
My Favorite Book:
In full transparency, the first time that I read this one, I cried. And for good reason. It carries all of the empathy of The Giving Tree coupled with the Jewish guilt of Seinfeld’s second season.
After any day where I can sense my own over-indulgence or twisted sense of reality, this is my favorite one to read before bedtime. The lesson is simple – life is all about perspective.
A bedtime classic:
But not every story needs to be that heavy or multi-cultural for PJ Library to be a win. Sometimes we pick up this classic.
This was actually one of the very first books that arrived when we subscribed to PJ Library and it’s the one we read when we are craving comfort food. It’s short, it’s sweet. And it’s somehow reminiscent of Joni Mitchell’s Circle Game.
Disclaimer: I’m just as likely to read this one on a Friday night as I am to read it before nap-time on a Sunday morning.
