Instagram vs. Reality: How To Keep it Cute when your Cutie Causes Clutter
There’s a fine line between cuteness and clutter when you’re living with a baby in NYC.
As a new mom, I am also learning to navigate my own crazy so I don’t lose my keys, wallet, and shirt in between my apartment and Trader Joe’s.
I also always post the picture perfect moment on Instagram. I capture the eye of the mess-storm. These are the life lessons I’m learning behind-the-scenes of those posts. This is the reality behind the instagram:
1. When I trip, you trip, we trip
But actually, if I don’t put everything away, I WILL trip.
With a baby, playtime is anytime. The stuffed animals, blankies, and toys are adorable but my son’s attention quickly shifts from one to the next. Putting everything away in its designated storage space is the only way I avoid trippin’ out all day.
#kaufMOMhack: Find large storage pieces that aren’t just functional but fashionable too. You never know when ELLE Decor will ask to feature your UWS apartment ; ).
2. Embrace the “Bag Lady” within
I have bags for absolutely everything. Under-eye bags. Diaper bags. Bags on bags on bags. But the diaper bag isn’t enough. I need bags inside of the diaper bag. And I always need a bag specifically for his bottles (even before they’re “chilling”) or I’ll lose everything.
And the stroller storage basket isn’t enough. I need a stroller front-facing fanny-pack or I’ll lose my keys, wallet, phone, camera, maybe even my head!
3. Store more than monsters under that crib
We’ve started categorizing our son’s clothing by age and storing anything 2 months out underneath his crib. An easy way to camouflage this classic move is by picking an indistinguishable, almost nude color…
#kaufMOMhack: Put your husband, significant other, or friend in charge of this task if you’re afraid of monsters…like me.
