I didn’t think that edgy minimalism really existed until I discovered Jewelry by Demi. It was love at first sight. And that love only continued to grow once I connected with the woman behind the brand, Demi Wilson. I soon learned that Demi was a fine & everyday jewelry designer, full-time working mom, and one of the CEOs behind BARE Athletics.

So when I discovered Jewelry by Demi, I didn’t just find my latest obsession or a welcome eye-candy addition for my feed. I also connected with a mom boss that was just as multifaceted as the diamonds that deck her gold designs. But I was in awe. I found myself constantly wondering how does she do it all? Read our interview to learn more about the mystery behind the masterpieces…and so much more.

On Motherhood & Entrepreneurship

Q: What’s it like to be a full-time working mom and the entrepreneurial leader behind not just one but two DTC businesses?

A: It is so fulfilling but at the same time an absolute hot mess. I am so happy to have a family that lives in Houston and helps out and a very supportive business partner in BARE. Everyday is completely different from the last especially with the pandemic and everything else happening in the world. Balancing running two businesses and carving out time to homeschool and hang out with my very active 7 year old is very challenging. Work/life balance has never been so hard and so important. Everyday is coordinated chaos and I try to be in the moment with my son and take the work life one day at a time.

On launching Jewelry By Demi

Q: When did you launch Jewelry By Demi? How? What was your inspiration?

A: I worked for a Jewelry Wholesaler while I was in college. I would wake up in the middle of the night and think of new designs. I started leaving a notepad and pen everywhere to draw out my ideas. Eventually I brought my designs to life and decided to create a business. I am inspired by my many travels and living overseas.

Q: Any favorite pieces?

A: Jewelry by Demi was started because I wanted to bring my designs to life. These designs are unique, and you won’t find them anywhere else. My favorite part of my job is working with my clients on design and budget. I did recently start an everyday collection that is gold dipped that I don’t design but brought on to have something on my site for everybody. My favorite piece are the Lauren Lariat and the Alexandra ear cuff.

On launching Bare Athletics

Q: And what about Bare Athletics? 

A: My childhood friend approached me about starting an activewear and wellness company with a focus on creating community. As an ex-collegiate volleyball player who has a passion for being fit and healthy, I was in immediately.  

Q: I love how the swimsuits & sets from Bare Athletics are incredibly high quality but at an accessible price point. What else do you think sets Bare Athletics apart? Do you have a favorite set or piece of the collection?

A: What sets us apart is our collection reflects both of our styles. Lauren loves color and print and I like more muted colors and neutrals. We both agree on every design and piece we bring in so it produces this perfect collection that fits everyone’s style. My favorite piece that we have is the Botswana. I love the settle raised leopard print.

Advice for aspiring moms & entrepreneurs

Q: What advice do you have for aspiring moms or designers who are eager to be small business owners or CEOs one day?

A: I say GO FOR IT. As moms we have insane schedules and are always busy. That is our superpower, we manage chaos which is the same as starting a small business so just go for it!

Q: What’s next for your brands? Any new launches coming up that we should keep on our radar?

A: For BARE we just launched a new subscription box called the BARE Club which features a workout set and a wellness product every month! Jewelry by Demi just launched the Everyday Collection bringing a lower price point to my customers.
