5 First Time Pregnancy Questions & Must-Haves

1. Is butter a carb? – Carbohydrates

Never underestimate the power of a piece of toast. “Bun in the oven” has a dual meaning to anyone eating for two. My #1 pregnancy must-have is carbs. Don’t leave home without snacks in every single bag. Crumbs on your clothes means you’re doing it right. In addition to those lean proteins and healthy fats, nosh on a few of kaufMOM’s “healthy” carb favorites:

Salt & Vinegar Popchips

Whole Grain Bread

Fig Bars

2. What do I drink instead of wine? – Lighter Caffeine

No shade to those who still drink coffee during pregnancy – TOTALLY allowed and encouraged by doctors. But I loved making a switch to a lighter caffeine with a lot of (probably BS) health claims. Most importantly – having a little bit less of a jolt in the morning kept my nerves at bay in the earlier stages of pregnancy when every time I farted, I thought I would miscarry.

3. Is this a stretch mark? – Mama Mio Everything

I’m not even one of the first 200 mom blogs to tout Mama Mio. Call me basic but I loved slathering oil and cream all over my stomach just like everyone with a bump before me did. But stretch mark solutions always get too much attention. My pregnancy wouldn’t have been complete without a few more unnecessary, totally indulgent products too. My favorite unsung hero was the tingly leg cream – loved forcing my husband to rub it all over my calves and shins circa week 28. Start with the bestsellers though…

4. How do I live without Lululemon? – THE ultimate pregnancy leggings

I stumbled upon them on some message board and tried them first because they were about $15 each (gotta love a promo). I ended up buying an infinite supply and wore them to chill out, work out, and sleep. I wore them every day of pregnancy and immediate post-pregnancy. And four months after baby popped out, I still indulge in the occasional wear because they’re SO. DAMN. COMFORTABLE. And dare I say flattering.

5. How do I do side bends or sittups – and please not lose that bump? – Resistance Bands

Though half of my pregnancy workouts were actually naps, I loved having a “safer” way to exercise and tone some muscle when I was preg. I would break these out and find a few YouTube stars to get me through 15-30 minutes of doing anything but sitting on my ass :). MUCH more to follow on kaufMOM approved pregnancy workouts and hilarious new ways to enjoy your temporary (permanent?) ab replacement.
