3 Ways to Give Back This Week
Between between the monotony of working from home and an ongoing series self-care rituals, I started to feel powerless in the middle of this pandemic. But I’ve also realized:
With great power comes great responsibility.
Stan Lee, Spider-Man
So I turned to all of you yesterday for tips on how to give back during this time. And powerlessness just took a backseat to positivity.
Here are 3 simple ways to give back this week.
Help healthcare workers
We’re all adjusting to this new normal. But hospital employees are fighting the pandemic on the front lines with limited support.
So consider making a donation to a hospital employee assistance fund. Donations help cover hospital workers transportation, childcare, and housing needs right now.
Together we can support today’s heroes. Here are a few places to donate in New York City:
Send smiles to the elderly
Many of us feel alone right now. But imagine being truly isolated. With family members barred from visiting nursing homes, it’s likely that endless episodes of the Bachelor don’t provide the same reprieve to the elderly during quarantine.
But did you know that you can send your children’s sketches, letters, and masterpieces to nursing homes? Love for the Elderly will distribute all of the above for you. During COVID-19, you can mail personalized, handwritten notes to: Love For The Elderly, P. O. Box 24248, Cleveland, OH 44124, USA.
Or get virtually involved and send a dedicated video to @lovefortheelderly.
Support small businesses
Emerging designers and small businesses are no strangers to this blog. But they need our support now more than ever.
Like Catbird. The shop is a Williamsburg staple. And our world would lose its true charm without Catbird’s accessible, female-designed, female-crafted jewelry. Also, the brand has a collection of pieces that can ship now. Including this care package that you can send to a friend for $20, featuring their tiniest solid 14k gold souvenir ring.
Or you can support the female entrepreneur & designer behind IMPerfect Apparel. All of the purchases on Dani Elle Moore’s site give back and support COVID-19 fighting efforts through Daily Karma integration. The brand celebrates individuality and champions love over hate. Bonus: you can customize this epic sweatshirt.
And if you need even more reason to shop right now, a California-based nurse anesthetist moonlights as the female entrepreneur behind this Alternative Apparel x Silkscreened sweatshirt by Simple Heart Co.
