2 Parenting Support Groups You Should Know About

May 14, 2020 by 2 Comments

Even in a full house, times of uncertainty can bring on waves of loneliness and isolation. Classes are virtual. Community festivities are cancelled. Sesame Street Live is on pause. Even with a partner, parenting has started to feel like an individual sport without any cheerleaders. Enter: JCC’s Parenting Support Groups.

Between the zoom birthdays and virtual happy hours with people in our networks, we now also have a way to connect with other parents facing similar concerns or unforeseen setbacks to their parental plans. So I had to share a few resources that just came across my desk for parents during this challenging time.

JCC’s Toddler Parenting Support Group

There aren’t any parenting books on how to navigate the terrible twos during covid-19. But this virtual meeting will take place 4 Wednesdays, May 27-Jun 17, 7-8:15 pm. I’ll be there on May 27th and look forward to meeting many of you.

We will discuss themes unique to parenting toddlers during the pandemic, such as working remotely, second shift duties, the “mental load” of parenting, and self-care.  Join us to share your experiences, build your community, and learn practical and emotional tools to move through this challenging time

JCC’s New Mother’s Support Group

Beautifully named Afterglow, the JCC’s new Mom’s support group will take place 6 Fridays, Oct 16-Nov 20, 10:30 am-noon.

Join mothers and their new babies from birth-5 months to gain information, share your experiences, and support one another in the early days of motherhood. Explore topics such as the development of maternal identity, infant attachment and bonding, postpartum mood and self-care, partner relationships, and returning to work

PS: Here is the link to donate to the JCC’s Emergency Fund. In their words – Times are uncertain. Community is not.
